THE OHIO STATE FAIR HAS AN EYE FOR ART…DO YOU?

 

COLUMBUS –The DiSalle Creative Arts Center and the annual Fine Arts Exhibition are home to hundred of talented local artists work. There is something for every fairgoers sparked interest to enjoy during this year’s Ohio State Fair art expositions. The Fine Arts department works closely with local colleges (The Ohio State University, Columbus College of Art & Design and Otterbei)n in staff internships providing gallery experience for future careers.

 

The DiSalle Creative Arts Center is home to a variety of competitions and demonstrations throughout the Ohio State Fair that showcase a wide range of talents and hobbies. Activities include: a Sanfillipo’s Culinary Event of the Day, Kids Kraft of the Day, a 500-pound chocolate pig and piglets, cooking competitions and floats made out of duct tape and Brillo pads. In full, more than $30,000 in awards will be awarded to participants in hundreds of creative arts competitions. Competition categories include:

  • Antiques and antique appraisals
  • Baked arts, culinary arts and food preservation: contests, competitions and recipes
  • Fashion Arts
  • Handcrafted Arts
  • Icing the Competition: cakes, cupcakes and gingerbread houses are decorated
  • Needle Arts
  • Nutritious and Delicious: cooking competitions for healthy food options
  • Youth Creative Arts

The annual Fine Arts Exhibition, with approximately 300 pieces, allows Ohio’s finest professional and amateur artists to showcase their talents in a variety of mediums. The Patron Purchase Program allows art enthusiasts to purchase artwork prior to the opening of the exhibition; last year, the program had more than $7,800 in sales. This program is also a great opportunity to support local artists and buy local artists’ works. Last year, more than $17,000 was awarded to the artists through local and corporate sponsors. More than $19,000 is offered in 2011.

 

The Ohio Expo Center is proud to host the Ohio State Fair. With a spectacular midway, big-name entertainment, hundreds of exhibits and one of the largest junior fair shows in the nation, the 2011 Ohio State Fair will run July 27 - August 7.
