COLUMBUS – Beat the mid-week blues and stop by the Ohio State Fair today. From great music to delicious food, there is fun for all ages.
•Pork Rib-Off: The 16th Annual Pork Rib-Off will be held today at 11:30 am in Central Park. Teams across the state will compete to be honored for the best ribs, pulled pork and barbecue sauce in the state. After celebrity judges sample the food, fairgoers will be able to enjoy free samples and cast their vote for People’s Choice Award.
•Kiddie Tractor Pull: Today from 1 - 4 pm in the ShowPlace Pavilion, children ages 3 through 8 will hop on one-tenth scale pedal tractors and pull a weight transfer sled 30 feet in this exciting annual tradition. The finalists in each age class are invited to pull at the Grand National Tractor Pull in January 2013 at Power Show Ohio.
•Food Sculpting Competitions: Sculptors from Rock on Ice, along with local culinary students, will make magnificent works of art from everyday fruits and veggies, some standing three feet high, today from 2 - 6 pm in the DiSalle Center auditorium.
•200 Columbus: A bicentennial tent will be on site to celebrate Columbus’ 200th birthday at 10 am in Central Park.
•Dog Shows: Fairgoers can swing by the Buckeye Sports Center at 9 am for the Junior Fair Dog Show. Immediately after will be the Dog Skillathon from 11 am - 3pm.
•Sheep Show: The Open Natural Colored Sheep Show will be in Brown Arena at 9 am.
•Merle Haggard / Kris Kristofferson Concert: Country superstars Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson are set to perform together on stage tonight at 7:30 pm in the WCOL Celeste Center. The show is sure to be a hit with two musicians of this caliber sharing one stage. Tickets are $28 at the door. If purchased before arriving at the Fair, tickets include Fair admission.
