In the early 60s, I was Promotion Manager at WBNS-TV, Columbus. We had a tent where on-air personalities (Flippo the Clown, Luci of "Luci's Toyshop, Joe Holbrook, etc., etc) would stop by. We also showed the CBS Fall Season previe film, but what really drew in the crowds were the free cold water fountains!
Childhood memory: In my graddad's office in Winchester, Ohio, he had a paperweight that I still recall, inscribed "His corn and his cattle were his only care, and his supreme delight...the Ohio State Fair.

In 2004 while visiting the Swine at the Ohio State Fair my daughter and I saw a big fat mature pig in labor, so we hung around for a long time wanting to see the little newly born piggies. We waited and waited, with my doctor son-in-law getting very impatient with us. But we wouldn't budge, as time slowly passed while watching the pig in labor. What could be more exciting than seeing piggies born, we told him. Finally I asked someone how much longer it would be before she would deliver her piggies. He answered, "she isn't in labor--she is in heat."
To say we were embarrassed is putting it mild, and we still laugh about it when we visit the swine barn each year.
