A grand champion has been announced in the third Ohio State Fair Poster Contest, open to amateur and professional artists statewide
Artists create unique designs that embody many of the great things that fairgoers love about the Ohio State Fair. This year in particular, we asked artists to incorporate a patriotic theme in their designs to celebrate America's 250th anniversary.
Artist Christian Billips’ poster was chosen as the first-place winner
Billips is a plastic and reconstructive surgery RN, as well as a peer mentor for an organization called POEM (a branch of the Mental Health America of Ohio). Billips thrives on people feeling and doing their best and living their happiest lives. He feels fortunate to incorporate seeing that through in his personal and professional life.
Billips wanted his image to be visually interesting while also feeling classic and familiar. The main goal of the design was to be able to evoke feelings of happiness and nostalgia through all generations and put a smile on people’s faces.
"I have loved the fair for as long as I can remember and look forward to it all year long. It’s a place that activates all your senses in the best way. My favorite thing is walking around and just seeing and feeling pure joy surrounding you from all walks of life. When I heard of this contest, there was no question I wanted to participate; I hoped I could create something that embodied everything I feel when thinking about the fair,” said Billips.
Among the 39 total entries, the top five posters will be on display in the Creative Arts Exhibits Kasich Hall during the 2026 Ohio State Fair. The winners are as follows:
- First Place — Christian Billips, Westerville
- Second Place — Gene Strickland, Columbus

- Fifth Place — Nikki Smetters, Hilliard
