Important Information
All terms and conditions are subject to change, including, but not limited to premiums.
DUNF Form
All market poultry exhibitors will be required to fill out Drug Notification Forms. A virtual DUNF form will be available by QR code at the Market Poultry check-in. Please DO NOT fill out prior to arrival.
Market Flock Style Project
Market flock style project means ownership including an individual junior exhibitor, family of a junior exhibitor or a cooperative made up of junior exhibitors. Through this type of ownership, the junior exhibitor(s) are to care for, groom, and select any and all birds to be used in exhibitions as well as actively participate in any decision making process for the flock.
Feed & Bedding
The Ohio State Fair will furnish coops, bedding (straw), water, feed and cups. Shavings must be purchased by the exhibitor. The Barn crew will feed once each day and will water all birds as needed. All Waterfowl and Turkey exhibitors should provide a large water container for each exhibit. The container should be secured so as not to spill.
Exhibitors may care for their own animals if they wish. However, please notify the Poultry Department staff of your intention to do so.
Breeding Poultry Rules
No birds will be allowed outside of the Poultry Barn on show days. If any birds are found outside of the barn on show days they will not be allowed to show.
Junior Exhibitors must show their own animals. Exceptions will be made only for exhibitors who may be physically impaired, who have two animals entered in the same class, or an exhibitor is absent on show day due to other commitments. In case of these exceptions another boy or girl who is eligible to be an Ohio Junior Division Exhibitor and must be resident of the State of Ohio, may exhibit the animal with the authorization of the department director. If a Junior Fair Livestock Exhibitor cannot be present at the time of judging the exhibitor will need to present to the department director a written permission notice signed by the football coach, band director or any other person in charge of an activity that is in conflict and prevents the exhibitor from being present at the time of judging. This notice must be on official letterhead of the organization and given to the department director 24 hours before show day and must include name, county, birthdate, home phone number, and complete address of the exhibitor’s home and work of the person in charge of the event (i.e. football coach, band director, etc.). Also include a brief description of the conflict.
All exhibitors must be either a 4-H or FFA current member in order to show in the Ohio State Fair Junior Poultry Show.
American Standard of Perfection will be the guide for judging breeding stock.
Breeding class entries are single birds, no pairs.
All birds must be owned by the exhibitor by May 31 and be a part of his or her individual project.
Exhibitors may make two (2) entries in each class, except for the Market Pen Class where only one entry may be made.
All birds must be entered in the proper class to be eligible for a premium. No changes made after the entry deadline.
All poultry must be free of evidence of contagious or infectious disease. Please bring in your 9-2 or 9-3 or test paperwork or NPIP.
On judging day all Junior exhibitors must be present. The Junior exhibitors will be assisted by contract employees of the Ohio State Fair or other Junior Fair exhibitors. No other people besides the Junior exhibitors and fair staff will be allowed in the cage area or around the judging during the show.
All birds must be out of the barn by 5:00 p.m., Sunday, August 9. No exception.
