About the Department

The Concessions & Vendor Relations Department oversees all food, beverage, and commercial vendors at the Ohio State Fair. From coordinating contracts and payments to managing booth layouts and assisting with on-site operations, the department plays a vital role in creating a positive experience for vendors and guests alike. Working closely with nearly every department of the Ohio Expo Center, the team ensures a seamless and professional vendor experience throughout the fair.

Internship Overview

The Concessions & Vendor Relations Internship offers a hands-on opportunity to experience the business and operational side of one of the largest fairs in the country. This intern will work alongside the Concessions & Vendor Relations Manager to assist with vendor communication, track contracts and payments, and support on-site operations before and during the Ohio State Fair. The internship is full-time, paid, and is based at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus from mid-May through early August.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with vendors regarding contracts, insurance, and payment documentation
  • Track and organize vendor information in department databases
  • Assist with vendor check-in, packet pickup, and layout marking on the fairgrounds
  • Support coordination of vendor and concessionaire logistics and evaluation during the fair
  • Collaborate with marketing interns on vendor promotions, including new fair food features
  • Work alongside various departments and third-party contractors such as sponsorship, decorating, and network teams

Learning Opportunities

Interns in this role will gain valuable skills in hospitality, communication, event management, and vendor relations while contributing directly to the success of the Ohio State Fair. They’ll learn the fundamentals of managing large-scale events, build confidence in professional communication, and develop an understanding of how operational and customer service details impact the fair’s overall guest experience.

When You'll Work

Hours: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in May, June and July. You will be required to work shifts on Saturday, July 18 and July 25, 2026.

Dates of employment: Mid-May through Mid-August (tentative based on school schedules). The entire internship cannot exceed 14 weeks. There is no work on state holidays: May 25, June 19, and July 3. Extended hours during the Fair: During the 12 days of the Fair, July 29 - Aug. 9, 2026, extended hours will be required (at least a 14-hour shift daily). Interns cannot take time off during the Fair.

Compensation: This is a paid internship at $15 per hour [straight time]
